Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Received National Leadership Award The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts was honored on Saturday, November 14 with the 2009 National Leadership Award, presented by the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts during its Conference for Community Arts Education in Minneapolis.
The National Leadership Award is conferred annually to an individual or institution whose work is nationally recognized as exemplifying and promoting the ideals to which the National Guild and its members are dedicated. This year, the National Guild recognizes the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts — the first state arts agency to receive this recognition — for its steadfast commitment to supporting community arts education and its innovative leadership as grant maker, convener, and advocate for the public value of the arts. Past recipients of this award have included MetLife Foundation, Wallace Foundation, Max Roach, Jacques D’Amboise, Dr. Billy Taylor, Jane Alexander, and Howard Gardner.
Said National Guild Executive Director Jonathan Herman, "The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts exemplifies the difference state arts agencies can make in increasing access to lifelong learning opportunities in the arts."
